Learn how to preserve your animal’s pedigree and ensure eligibility for ILR programs.

This statement by the International Lama Registry (ILR) is intended to reveal the Registry’s policy in regard to handling data obtained from its members and others with whom it has business, such as Registry members; subscribers to its online services; purchasers of other ILR-produced or ILR-distributed goods and services. The International Lama Registry is a not-for-profit organization charged by its membership with many tasks, including: maintaining the breeding and performance records for lamas and promoting the species. Our efforts, as they relate to this statement, are designed to be consistent with these aims, balanced with the interests of our members, customers, and business partners.

Why register?

  • Since our founding in 1985, the International Lama Registry has been dedicated to building the most accurate and trusted lama database in North America.
  • Registering your llama, alpaca, guanaco, vicuna or crossbreed with the ILR provides you with a detailed genealogy, ownership history for the animal, the ability to earn ILR awards inside and outside the show ring, and the ability to register future offspring.

Registry Classes

Registered
  • Available to llamas and alpacas born of two registered or screened parents.
  • Open to guanacos, vicunas, and cross-breeds of unknown parentage.
  • Offspring of registered animals are eligible for registration.
  • Eligible for all ILR Show Division classes and awards.
Listed
  • Available when one or both parents are unknown.
  • Offspring are not eligible for registration.
  • May participate in ILR sanctioned performance classes.
  • No tracked lineage.
Screened
  • Requires physical and phenotypic evaluation.
  • Offspring are eligible for registration.
  • May participate in ILR sanctioned performance classes.

Register Your Lama

  • Use the if all verifications can be signed.
  • Otherwise submit the PDF Registration Form with photos and fees by mail.

Naming Rules

  • Maximum 35 characters.
  • Must differ by at least one letter from existing names.
  • No infringement on breeder identifiers or protected names.
  • No unauthorized ranch or personal names.

Photograph Requirements

  • Registrations without proper photos are not accepted.
  • Minimum 2 photos (left & right), 4 recommended.
  • Color photos showing full lama only.
  • No other animals in the photo.
